When the last of the suitcases have been unpacked and the routine of everyday life begins again, images of foreign adventures dance through one’s mind and the rich experiences fill one’s daydreams. These memories are cherished and recently, one guest, Josh Coefield, had an opportunity to share his reflections regarding his journey with SKYIN. As always, we are grateful for the time taken and the kind sentiments.
“Our two-week adventure with SKYIN was, without a doubt, one of the most remarkable travel experiences I’ve ever had. From the seamless booking process to the truly authentic cultural encounters, every detail was thoughtfully crafted by Skyler, the owner of SKYIN, and his incredible team in Kenya. If you’re looking for a travel experience that goes far beyond sightseeing, SKYIN offers exactly that.
The experience began with Skyler himself, who personally walked us through every step of the booking process, making us feel comfortable and prepared for the adventure ahead. He even introduced us to our host family before our arrival, which gave us the chance to get to know each other and start building a rapport. This touch really set the tone for what was to be a warm and personal journey.
Our trip started in Nairobi, where we had the unique privilege of staying in a homestead with a Kenyan family. Our hosts, Momma Joy and her daughter Joy, were nothing short of amazing. They welcomed us into their home like family, preparing us breakfast, lunch, and dinner that showcased the incredible flavors of Kenyan cuisine. It’s no exaggeration to say this was some of the best food I’ve ever had! Every meal was rich with local ingredients and full of love—an experience that no restaurant could replicate.
One of the most heartwarming parts of our stay was spending time with the children at the daycare on the property. We played, danced, and sang with them, which touched my heart in ways I didn’t expect. The joy and innocence of the children and the simple yet profound way they engaged with us left a lasting impact. Kenya’s vibrant spirit really shines through its people, and this experience was just the beginning.
From Nairobi, we traveled to a Maasai village where we met Chief Joshua. The Maasai welcomed us warmly, sharing their way of life, which has remained beautifully preserved for generations. The chief and villagers demonstrated traditional practices, and we had the joy of playing soccer with the kids, eating with the community, and dancing to their traditional music. There’s something so special about how they hold onto their heritage and live in harmony with the land, and SKYIN provided a respectful and immersive way to witness it firsthand.
Our journey then took us to Kenya’s stunning coast with Shipa and Brian as our guides. One of the absolute highlights was swimming with dolphins in their natural habitat. The pure thrill of being in the water with these majestic creatures is something I will never forget! The boat tour was filled with music and laughter, and Brian added to the fun by showing us some local dance moves when we went out on the town later. The warmth and vibrancy of Kenya’s coastal culture are truly contagious.
Next, we visited the Mijikenda tribe in the Sacred Kaya Forest. We were given the honor of witnessing a traditional wedding and were introduced to the village elders and a fortune teller, who shared stories and traditions with us. This insight into the tribal customs was another example of how Kenya’s rich history and respect for tradition are still very much alive today.
The final leg of our journey brought us to several national parks with Michael, our tour guide. Michael didn’t just guide us to see the “Big Five”—he shared stories and insights about the land, the wildlife, and his own experiences. Michael’s storytelling, sense of humor, and knowledge made each drive through the parks a memorable experience. By the end of our safari, it felt like we were traveling with family. Thanks to his skill and keen eye, we saw countless animals up close: lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, and rhinos, along with many other species unique to Kenya. It was breathtaking to see these animals in the wild, and I couldn’t have asked for a better guide and companion for this part of our journey.
As we wrapped up our trip and returned to Nairobi, we were greeted once again with warm hugs and another delicious meal from Momma Joy and Joy. Their kindness and hospitality were the defining factors of this trip—more than just hosts, they became friends and family to us. Kenya’s hospitality goes beyond service; it’s how they make you feel welcome, respected, and truly cared for. This trip left me with a profound respect and admiration for the people of Kenya and the country’s incredible diversity.
In every sense, SKYIN curated an experience that allowed us to connect deeply with Kenya’s people, traditions, and natural beauty. The level of care and personalization that Skyler and his team provided made all the difference. If you’re looking to go beyond the typical tourist experience and truly immerse yourself in another culture, SKYIN is the way to go. I have so much love and respect for the people of Kenya, and I can’t wait to return and explore even more of this beautiful country.” – Josh Coefield
