For our founder, Skyler Mason, Kenya is more than just a destination; it’s a place woven into the fabric of his life through years of exploration. His intimate familiarity ignited a vision: to offer travelers an unparalleled experience beyond the beaten path, a chance to immerse themselves in the local culture and embrace the warmth of Kenyan life, truly “living like a local”.
Driven by a strong commitment to make a tangible and lasting difference in the region, Skyler’s aspirations extended beyond tourism. He envisioned creating a sustainable presence that would generate continuous employment opportunities and cultivate long-term growth for local communities throughout Kenya. This resolute dedication for intentional change became the cornerstone of SKYIN’s mission.
From an early age, Skyler has been an integral member of Lekuruki village, home to the Maasai tribe, where access to clean water has always been a daily challenge. Witnessing the hardships this community endured — children walking for miles to collect water, families forced to rely on contaminated sources, and the resulting health issues, have left a lasting impression and sparked a lifelong commitment to make a difference. Moved by a deep connection to the community and a desire to support those he considers family, Skyler has dedicated himself to building a sustainable water well in Lekuruki village. His mission is to bring clean, reliable water to the village — offering a life-changing resource the community has gone long without.
The water crisis gripping Lekuruki village represents a severe and pressing challenge profoundly impacting thousands of lives within its community. This crisis is not attributable to a single cause but rather stems from a confluence of interconnected factors, primarily physical water scarcity exacerbated by economic limitations, and a severely underdeveloped water infrastructure.
Water serves as the bedrock upon which sustainable development is built. Its availability and quality intricately influences virtually every dimension of human life and societal progress. From the fundamental aspects of personal hygiene and sanitation to the broader spheres of education, economic prosperity, and overall family health, water plays an indispensable role.
SKYIN has partnered with WorldServe International, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing clean water access across Africa. Together, we aim to raise global awareness regarding this critical issue and collaborate on sustainable solutions — starting with the fundraising and construction of a water well to support the communities we serve.
